About Katie
I’m a writer, producer, and connector working at the intersection of culture, beauty, and conscious storytelling. My perspective is shaped not only by my work, but by my four children — two by birth and two through adoption — who continually deepen how I understand identity, belonging, and the kind of world I hope we’re building.
I’m the voice behind Rising Tides, a Substack newsletter dedicated to highlighting underrepresented entrepreneurs while exploring personal reflections on motherhood, identity, and intentional living.
I contribute to and produce stories for State of the Bay on KALW, where I focus on conversations around local culture, equity, and community across the Bay Area.
At the core of my work is a belief in connection — that when we move with intention, support one another, and make conscious choices, we participate in building something larger than ourselves.
A Little More of My Story
Earlier in my career, I practiced law and hold degrees from Vanderbilt University and Vanderbilt University Law School. The through line across everything — law, media, storytelling — has always been the same: who gets heard, and who doesn’t.
Some work I’m proud of:
Created the LIFT exhibition, a nationally recognized art exhibit on Black artists and racial justice that broke attendance records and received a Smithsonian Award
Led a 2020 civic campaign that brought more than 1,000 citizens to the polls in my hometown
Served on the boards of Wide Horizons for Children and SFCASA
The Colley Family, San Francisco, 2015
In Their Words
“Katie has been a client since I first started my brand over ten years ago. I was truly blown away by how she approached my work with care and curiosity. Katie truly appreciates the story and intention behind our brand. Katie has shown a consistent commitment to championing Black-owned businesses in a way that is both genuine and impactful. I’m honored to have her ongoing support of our work.”
Hana Getachew, Founder of Bolé Road Textiles
"Katie has incredible taste; her superpower is discerning what's brilliant, notable, and beautiful, be it book, film, color palette, brand, experience, and more. Her own aesthetic is vibrant and alluring, and all this, coupled with the fact that she's casual, welcoming, chatty, and kind make it bliss to partner or work through a project with her."
Megan O'Neill, CEO & Designer of NAYLA
